An Interview With Ewen MacIntosh
Star of the most successful comedy of all time, scotch egg enthusiast and all round nice guy Ewen MacIntosh took some time out to have a chat with us. We talked fighting zombies, working alongside Colin Farrell, and even found out what his favourite gift on our site is…
Like most people I was first introduced to you through The Office. No one could have predicted how enormously successful it would eventually become, so how did your life change after it took the world by storm?
Well it started gradually and just seemed to grow and grow so it wasn’t like being suddenly famous overnight. It certainly changed my life in that it opened up a lot of work that I would never have got otherwise. It still gets me work to this day all those years later in fact!
Everyone who’s watched The Office remembers the famous scotch egg scene. Have you ever been approached to advertise scotch eggs à la John Lydon and Country Life butter?
Nope. Not one single offer! They definitely missed a trick there…
Are you sick of the sight and taste of scotch eggs and shall I stop talking about them now?
I could never get sick of them. They are the king of the picnic/service station hybrid snack.
Do you still keep in touch with Mackenzie Crook, Martin Freeman, Ricky Gervais, Steve Merchant or anyone else from the cast?
Not particularly, I speak to Ricky occasionally and was recently messaging Lucy Davis. Everyone is super busy these days.
We’re very excited for the upcoming British horror ‘Shed of the Dead’. It sounds and looks amazing. What can you tell us about your role in it? And can I come to the premier with you?
I don’t know when the premiere will be or when the film will be out yet! It was great fun to do, a dream for me as a big horror fan. I got to fight zombies, wear a suit of armour and make out with Emily Booth who I had a major crush on back in the 90’s so what’s not to love! Plus they paid me. Madness, utter madness.
If you could star on screen alongside any actor alive or dead who would it be and why?
I’ve been pretty lucky already if I’m honest. Last year I got to act alongside John C. Reilly, Ben Wishaw and Colin Farrell all in the one scene in The Lobster and I am a real fan of all 3 of them so that was surreal. Maybe Bruce Campbell. I’d love to snag a part in Ash vs The Evil Dead.
To finish up, what’s your favourite gift on our site? (By choosing to answer this question it by no means guarantees you’ll mysteriously receive it in the post.)
So many great gifts on the site, a fair few caught my eye but I think it would have to be the Slushie Maker Cup. That baby sounds too good to be true!
